Born in 1968, the Belgian Nicolas Thys is a much sought-after sideman, whether it be in his home city of Brussels, or during the eight years (1999-2007) that he lived in New York City. For this CD he has put together an exciting quintet, and composed pieces explicitly for this band. Pirouet CD listeners will recognise Thys from his work with pianist Bill Carrothers ("I Love Paris"). He has worked with usicians and groups spanning a variety of styles, including Mal Waldron, Zap Mama, Lee Konitz, and Brazilian Girls. Thys knows many musical worlds from the inside-out, and elements from these worlds flow finely back into his music.

Press quote:
"... Because Seizer, this strict solitary person has been someone who has been worth listening to for years. He has a powerful, finely modulated tone on his tenor saxophone. He can bring ballads to an enriched shimmer of colors and load speedy "Bepop" phrases with a rough brilliance and luminous powers and, above all, he knows how to dose his tones in such a way that there is never the impression of blank eloquence. ..." Press quote:
"... The sounds appear in their extreme transparency and lyrical flow, offer music from the quieter side of life which shows a high level of injured emotions and yearning warmth in a gentle and nuance-rich interaction of singing, piano, bass and drums. ..." (Tobias Böcker - Jazz Zeitung, Germany)
