Taiko Saito and Niko Meinhold are a musical pair with an astoundingly mutual alignment capability. The Japanese Taiko Saito grew up with classical percussion music, studied marimba-phonics in Tokyo and subsequently trod new paths in Berlin with the jazz vibraphonist David Friedman amongst others. Niko Meinhold studied in Berlin and Stockholm, composed for Big Band, wrote music for films, television and radio plays and played in various ensembles. Whereas Taiko Saito concerned himself extensively with the Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu and refers to Niko Meinhold's avant-gardists such as the American Morton Feldman, the Hungarian György Ligeti and the Frenchman Olivier Messiaen as sources of inspiration.
