There are surprises in the pages of this musical family album, and a pervading atmosphere of private tenderness. These are gripping pieces for piano that act as musical embraces and, as in some wonderfully muted movie, capture so many magical moments. "Family Life" is a work of art - with Bill Carrothers' signature on it.

NEW RELEASE: MARC COPLAND · SOME MORE LOVE SONGS

With their subtle magic, these recordings seem to stop the march of time. Their interpretive magic is not in-your-face emotional; rather, it is emotion that gives space to all of the music's beauty and contradictions. Love songs cannot be any more apropos and genuine than this. And the beautiful and painful power of love can scarcely be depicted more serenely and at the same time intensively as has Copland's trio.

Marc Copland · Some More Love Songs

Marc Copland piano · Drew Gress bass · Jochen Rueckert drums
NEW RELEASE: HENNING SIEVERTS · SYMMETHREE

With these three musicians, it all sounds incredibly easy - the themes and motifs bubble out like water from a wellspring. The listener never senses the kind of effort that can go into playing pieces of this sort of difficulty, simply because these three musicians' music has a lot of spirit and soul. This music is fun and sensuous!

Henning Sieverts bass, cello · Ronny Graupe guitar · Nils Wogram trombone
NEW RELEASE: SEBASTIAN GILLE · ANTHEM

Sebastian Gille, is a saxophonist of exceptionally fine musicality, a jazz musician whose music has stylistic coherence, highly cultivated intensity, and absorbing tonal beauty. It is a music that is searching for the sounds that come from deep within, and that is what makes this music exceptional. Here, on Pirouet Records, is the first CD under his own name.

Sebastian Gille · Anthem

Sebastian Gille tenor & soprano saxophone, alto clarinet · Pablo Held piano · Robert Landfermann bass · Jonas Burgwinkel drums
KEVIN HAYS · VARIATIONS

There is a lot to discover in and behind Kevin Hays' piano solo music. It is music that appears to be classical yet deeply breathes in the spirit of jazz. It is the music of a jazz improviser who integrates the vocabulary of various epochs of piano music in an exceptionally natural way, transforming it into a distinctive musical language.

WDR JAZZ AWARD 2011

The WDR Jazz Award 2011 in the category improvisation goes to Pianist PABLO HELD who earlier this year released Glow, his third album for PIROUET RECORDS after his critically well acclaimed debut Forest of Oblivion from 2007, followed by Music (2010), with which he gained international recognition. The Award Ceremony will take place on October 28th during the WDR Jazz Cologne festival. There Held will perform with a septet he put together especially for this evening.

MARC COPLAND & JOHN ABERCROMBIE · SPEAK TO ME

"Speak to Me" is the CD premiere of a duo that has actually been in existence for some time. The recordings with pianist Marc Copland and guitarist John Abercrombie are classic examples of the quiet, calm art of communication practiced at the highest level. It is comparable to the finest chamber music. This is music from two of the most insightful players of jazz.

ACHIM KAUFMANN · VERIVYR

Achim Kaufmann's music is nuanced, highly refined trio jazz. The pieces on this CD are enigmatic and loaded with energy, wild and at the same time structured. The exciting streams of musical thought, the heat of creative moments, the intensity of musical movement - all are blended with the allure of discovering new musical possibilities.

BILL CARROTHERS TRIO · A NIGHT AT THE VILLAGE VANGUARD

Pirouet's first live and first double CD - with pianist Bill Carrothers' trio. The Album relives an entire concert: the first set - CD1, the second set - CD2. An evening at the legendary Village Vanguard jazz club with the trio of one of the best American jazz pianists of the last twenty years is passed on, and you can listen to sparkling, shimmering piano-trio jazz - music that has many a heady, exciting story to tell.

JOCHEN RUECKERT · SOMEWHERE MEETING NOBODY

A current of powerful, sensitively interacting colors holds the listener hostage from the first measure on, as the sounds of four remarkable individuals from the current New York jazz scene are blended together to create an excitingly vital group sound. This is music from a band with a low-keyed leader - a drummer who has everything firmly in hand - thrilling new jazz for the listener who loves expressive music that is both powerful and subtle.

Fascinatingly original - a good description of this quartet's multifaceted musical world throughout this CD. This quartet presides over music of great depth and intensity and at the same time makes it all seem breathtakingly easy and clear. A masterpiece of mutual inspiration.
